For my desktop, if I want to boot off USB or the second hard drive, I have 2 choices. I can either press an "F" key during boot up and choose the device I can boot either Linux or Vista on the same box. Before anyone jumps, Vista won't accept Lilo very gracefully. It's easier to just tell it which one to boot.
